We are seeking individuals with a passion for serving our guests to join our award winning garden center/nursery. Starting Monday, January 31st, we will be taking applications at our office.

Days: Monday - Friday
Times: 9 am - 4 pm

Positions Hiring For: Production, Retail, Office

Job Descriptions:

Retail:
1. Cashier: Runs cash register and if not on cash register helps out in the different areas of the store, depending on where the Retail Manager assigns them and what is needing done.
2. Loader: Needs to be able to lift up to a 100lbs. Helps with the heavy items with retail, such as loading of mulch, trees, shrubs, and other items.
3. Sales Floor Associate: Helps with guests on the sales floor. Other duties may include: watering, stocking, planting, and helping out in other areas of the store if needed.

Production:
1. Transplant Line: Works in the back to transplant plants into different size containers. Other duties include: Helping to water and helping out in different areas of production.
2. A to Z House: This is our annual house. Duties include helping guests with annuals, watering, stocking, and helping out in different area's of retail and production.
3. Other production: Duties include: Helping to stock retail areas, taking care of back production houses, watering, helping guests, and helping out in other areas when needed.

Office:
Duties Include: Answering phones, checking out wholesale guests, faxing, data entry, making signs and banners, mailings, cash register, flyers, copying, emails, filing, and anything else that needs to be done.

1. Can I fill out an application online?
No, we do not have applications online. You will need to come to the office to fill out the application.

2. Can I take the application home with me?
No, you will need to fill out the application here at the office. Please be prepared to spend at least a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes filling out the application.

3. Can I use a resume in place of the application?
You can bring a resume with you, but you will still need to fill out an application.

4. How old do you need to be to work here?
We hire 16 (need to be 16 as of January 1, 2011) and older.

5. How do I get to the office?
Park in front parking lot and enter through front door of store. Head straight back to back of store. Cream colored door.

6. Will there be training?
Yes, if you are hired we will train you for the job you will be performing.

7. Do I need to call back to see if I am going to be interviewed?
Please once you fill out an application Do Not call the store asking if we have looked at the application. If we are interested we will call you and set up an interview.

8. When do you start interviewing?
We will start setting up interviews late February.

9. Do I need to bring anything with me when I come fill out an application?
Yes, Please bring three references (not-related to you) their names, phone numbers, addresses. Work history (if applicable) the company(ies) name, dates worked, address, phone number, and supervisors name.

Mischief Elves

These cute and adorable elves bring mischief around the Holiday season. A few weeks before Christmas they come to your house to check on the good little girls and boys. On Christmas Eve they hitch a ride back with Santa. These little elves can be good or bad depending on their mood. Sometimes they do nice things like cleaning the dishes or sometimes they do bad things like unrolling all the toilet paper from a roll and running it around the house. What ever mischief they are up to they always have fun and you will too.

I saw my first Christmas Commercial on Halloween this year. Every year it gets earlier and earlier. Before we know it people will be playing Christmas Songs in July. Oops, I already do. At least once in awhile to cheer up my spirit and make everyone else groan. Here at Wilson's the Christmas cheer has already begun. Our Christmas Shoppe is being set up as I write with many great Christmas ideas. Our fresh greens will be coming in this week and Sandy and her crew will be cranking out the wreaths, blankets, and swags. Come in and place a special order or shop our pre-made arrangements. If your feeling creative this year, we have the supplies to make your own. Our florist grade Poinsettias will be available starting Thanksgiving weekend. These beautiful poinsettias brighten up any room with Christmas cheer. This year we are bringing back cut Christmas Trees. Starting Thanksgiving weekend we will have gorgeous cut Fraser firs available. Bring the family down and choose from table top to 12 foot trees. The perfect size for any home.

Ladies Night Out Thank You

Fresh Produce

There is nothing like biting into a fresh tomato and having the juice dribble down your chin. Makes you want to go make a BLT sandwich. This year we have gone back to our roots and are selling produce. All of it homegrown in Ohio. We have sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, onions, peaches, blueberries, raspberries, potatoes, green beans, cucumbers, and zucchini. Each week brings in new and fresh vegetables and fruits.

Snow!!!! After 24 inches of snow in the month of February everyone is praying for spring to come. For the first time in weeks the weather has become above 32 degrees. The snow is melting and Frosty is heading back to the North Pole where he belongs.

Socked In!

Twelve inches and counting. Wondering what I am talking about? Snow, lots and lots of snow. Its a winter wonderland. Where was this when Christmas was here? It would have been a beautiful scene with all the twinkling lights and the Christmas trees. Makes you think Spring will never come.
I want to have everyone give our Nexus people a round of applause. The three men who have been coming to work putting up our greenhouse have been going at it seven days a week from 7:30 in the morning to 7:30 at night. Snow, sleet, rain have not stopped them since they arrived here to start putting up the greenhouse. These men have worked through it all.
For those who have been keeping up with the blog, I had mentioned that we will be taking applications this week. We have had to post phone it until next week.

Does not seem like it, but the first month of 2010 has almost come and gone on us. As I am sitting here in the office you can hear all the construction going on outside. The beep, beep, beep from the lifts is always constant. I think when they are done with the greenhouse and gone, I will miss the noise. Then again maybe not. Right now we are behind, but every day that the crews are working means a day that the greenhouse is being worked on. We will be reopening March 1st to the public, but we will be in our Christmas location until we get the new green house up and running.

We have had some phone calls and emails asking when we are going to start taking applications for the coming season. We will start taking them the second week in February. All you will have to do is come to our back office. The hours for taking applications will be Monday - Friday: 8 am - Noon & 1 pm - 4 pm. The office person is at lunch between noon- 1 pm. The application will need to be filled out here and you will need your work history and also three contacts (that are not related to you) for the application.

Do You See What I See?

Its a bird, its a plane, its a bunch of snow covering the ground. If you said any of those you may be absolutely correct, but your still not even close. It's a greenhouse. It has magically appeared over the last week, while we have been relaxing in sunny, freezing cold Florida (much to our dismay when we got back it turned warm down there). Well the crews have been going to town on the new greenhouse and you can now tell its a greenhouse and not some barren wasteland out in front of Wilson's. The concrete guys arrived this morning to lay the first section of what is to be the main floor of the new greenhouse. The green house people are up on their lifts attaching framing and everything is going smoothly.

If you haven't looked out your window today, your in for a treat. It may not be a whole lot, but we have snow. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the perfect day for shopping, getting into snowball fights, and sitting in front of the window with a cup of hot chocolate. The scenery around Wilson's is so peaceful and relaxing right now, even the construction equipment looks asleep under its blanket of snow.

We Have Light!

After slight delay progress has resumed on the construction project. Today AEP is out putting up our new parking lot lights, while the construction crew is working on the footers for the new store. Hopefully the weather will hold out this week and more concrete can then be laid.

Off to the races?

Off to the races! Well at least we thought we were. With the winter weather finally coming to central Ohio, progress on the construction has been slow at best, none at worst. With the rains came concerns that we were not going to get our parking lot laid down before the asphalt company shut down for the season. Making it so we would not have a paved parking lot for guests when we opened up in spring. With that concern came the decision to switch to concrete for the front parking lot, so that way we would have a greater window of time to get it laid down. At the end of last week the construction crews began laying down the concrete to our front parking lot. Unfortunately for them, rainy weather has hit again. Making the front parking area a muddy mess. Hopefully with clearer skies ahead the ground will dry up and everything will continue as scheduled.

Christmas Shoppe!

Okay, what happened to the other months? I looked out the window and it was summer and now its winter. I guess time flies when your having fun. Its beginning to look like Christmas here at the store. The Christmas shoppe is full of great gift ideas and gorgeous Poinsettias are now out for sale. Fresh greens arrived this past week and the girls have started to make wreaths and grave blankets. Don't forget nows a great time to place an order for your fresh greens arrangements. Just call the store and ask for Sandy.

Clear Skies Overhead

Today is a drop dead gorgeous day. I don't think you can ask for any day better than this. Sunny skies not to cold. Great weather for being outside working in the garden or hanging with the family. The construction crew has been grinding along everyday this past week with all the great weather we have had. The walk way for in front of the new store has been laid. Kind of strange seeing a side walk in the middle of a barren area. The neatest part of construction, is all the cool machinery that they use, there is something different each day. Yesterday it was the machine with the big wheel on the front. That thing is very loud and it shakes everything. It's awesome!

Hunting For Buried Treasure

We had to groan yesterday when water started pouring out of an area that was thought clear of any underground lines. Here under the concrete laid a waterline totally forgotten for 20 some years. Much to the employee's dismay it was part of the water line to our bathrooms. After a quick fix and a sigh of relief from the employee's the bathrooms are back up and running at least for a little while any ways. Our story continues with a question as to where the line ties into the main line. So our hunt for buried treasure began. You may wonder did we actually truly find buried treasure. No, unfortunately all the buried treasure must have been dug up by the pirates long ago. We did manage to find a old glass coke bottle and the connection to the main water line. Now that the line has been capped off the employees are praying that the water will work because they had to turn off the bathroom water again in order to cap off the line. I guess tomorrow will only tell. By the way if you haven't noticed, the green house is totally down.

Remodel Week 2

Wow a week has flown by fast. To address the worries we are still open during our time of construction. Just follow the signs around to the back driveway and follow them to the parking sign. Starting Monday we will be having everyone go down the back driveway to the west parking lot and parking there. Our Christmas area will be open for everyone to shop. The pictures shown, show what progress has been made in our demolition of the garden center. Its amazing how much deconstruction can be done in a week. On the bottom is the beginning of the week and on the top is the end of the week.

Remodel Week 1

All is going well in this first week of remodeling. The front part of the main green house is almost gone. Pictured to the left is the front of the store before and as of this week what it looks like. Pictured below are some of the demolition pictures taken during the week of the main gift area and register area. These areas will be new parking lot in the future. The new green house will be set back farther in but still visible from the road.
